Cannabis and CBD: The Role Within Health and Wellness

2021: Aclara Research and Ipsos

Aclara collaborated with Ipsos to understand how, why and when consumers were using cannabis and CBD products - identifying need states that impact 100 Million adults.

Projected to reach $41 Billion in sales by 2025, legal cannabis disrupts consumer demand for traditional categories and retailer trips - including alcohol, OTC medications, prescription drugs and wellness products.

In this study of over 1,000 consumers, over 50% stopped or reduced their usage of alcohol, OTC, prescription drugs and supplements.

This 100 page study contains answers to key questions impacting companies in the Wellness, OTC Medications, Prescription Drugs and Beverage/ Alcohol Industries:

Methodology and Timing

Qualitative

In 2021, we explored qualitative insights across key focus areas and invited members to respond in a pop up online community.

Topics included:

  • Why are people using cannabis in their daily lives?

  • How are people changing and shifting their health and wellness routines?

  • How did they first consider and use THC or CBD products?

Quantitative

We fielded a 38 question online survey across 1,003 adult respondents across recreational and medical states.

We collected quantitative data across the following topics:

  • Reasons for cannabis and CBD use

  • Understand product forms and dosing levels

  • Understand the usage occasions

  • Demand impact on traditional CPG products

  • Household spending and channels shopped
